Shabby patchwork quilt style chenille robe, designed from original vintage chenille bedspreads in a rainbow of fabulous, fun colors. The focal point is a solitary peacock on the front panel, which faces a trio of shabby hearts and a whimsical patch pocket.

Lush mint green rear panel loaded with swirls of frothy white curlicues and happy flowers. Patchwork accents, little treasures of vintage chenille bedspreads from times past, are appliqued throughout.

To blend sentimentality with sustainability as we use these precious, scarce vintage chenille fabrics to tell a story of our great American textile history. Once omnipresent in homes across the country during the 1930s-1950s, chenille fell out of fashion in the decades thereafter. By the 1980s and 90s, they found their way to thrift stores, auction houses, and “rag factories,” allowing a new generation of enterprising women to re-envision these once-loved textiles.

Today, quality chenille has become very challenging to source in any condition, which presents a design challenge we’re up for. The benefit of this design is in its sustainability – all garments wear eventually and many are simply discarded. Lost your belt tie? Snagged the hem? Facings a bit worn?
