Adapted from a 1773 sampler in the Cooper Hewitt Museum…stunning, traditional Jacobean floral alphabet sampler…expertly done in cross-stitch & crewel. The craftsmanship on this lovely piece is some of the best we have ever seen – it could truly be in a museum, with fine attention to detail and exquisite handiwork throughout…see the reverse side of the finished work in img #3.
A beautiful piece of American history…completed, professionally hand-embroidered from the Ladies Home Journal & American Home / Home Project Services…this was also sold back in the day as a Paragon Needlecraft kit.
I believe the kit # reads “02070x” on the linen canvas. Designed to fit frame 22.5″ x 17″; actual piece measures 19″ x 25″. Circa late 1970s era, comes with original insert from the kit. This is a finished embroidery piece, not a kit that requires completion.
